Company History
1995 Business started. Initially a Partnership called The Flooring
Association. We started the business with the intention of carrying our
small raised floor refurbishment projects in and around central London
1996 Steve Winzar joins us as a Contracts manager (Steve is now our
Contracts Director) after he returns from working in The Netherlands for a
few years.
First introduced to a new product called Intercell for refurbishments
projects where they do not have the floor to ceiling height for a more
traditional raised floor (TFA still love this product and are still the
biggest installer of this product many years on)
1997 As the business grows we become a Limited Company and change the
name to TFA Interior Projects Limited.
First major fitout project happens this year which is for Salomon Brothers
in Victoria, London with Interior Plc
First introduced to John Keith who to this day remains our business guru and
adviser. A sensible head on mature shoulders – just what we have always
needed
1998 Andy Stubbles joins us to increase the sales support. Tim and Andy
had worked together at Hewetson Floors for 3 years previously so this was an
opportunity to put back together a great team.
1999 We opened a Midlands office of TFA in order to investigate projects
outside of London.
We secured a fascinating project with the now defunct contractor, Sunley
Turriff to refurbish the famous BBC Broadcasting House building using the
Intercell cable management system
2000 We undertook major projects with Bovis at Nottingham University and
Balfour Beatty at RAF Menwith Hill near Harrogate. Both interesting, but
challenging projects to be involved with.
TFA joined The Access Flooring Association.
2001 The raised floor market gets tough. Time to consolidate and
concentrate on our core London Market. Decide to close Midlands office.
First introduced to an American product called TecCrete which we still use
and champion to this day.
Tim flies back from the TecCrete factory in the USA from the same airport
and on the same day as the planes are hijacked and flown into the Twin
Towers in New York.
2002 TFA completes the installation of 20 floors of Intercell for
Overbury plc at the iconic London landmark building, Euston Tower.
This was a tough year where TFA battened down the hatches as price wars
raged within our industry. This is a year we want to forget.
2003 TFA won their largest project to date, the new headquarters building
for Marks and Spencer with ISG Interior in Paddington, London.
Tony Girdlestone joins us as a sit supervisor and has now become our
Quantity Surveyor and key member of the Contracts Team
Generally still a difficult trading year within our Industry. A number of
raised floor manufacturers cease trading, prices squeezed to almost
impossibly low levels.
2004 TFA undertake a large fitout for Overbury at the new Reuters News
Agency headquarters in Canary Wharf...
The Chairman of The Access flooring Association, Albert Hazeldine dies this
year. A true Gentleman and a major loss of expertise and knowledge
Light at the end of the tunnel as the market gets easier and we start to
emerge from a pretty nasty couple of years
2005 TFA celebrates a 10 year anniversary. Steve Everett joins us as a
full time Health and safety Manager. This appointment substantially improves
our practices and procedures as this subject rightly gains in importance
throughout the construction industry.
2006 TFA goes carbon neutral
Dave Lindsay joins us as our full time estimator and CAD specialist. Other
personnel to join us this year include an additional Sales Manager, Barry
Foreman and also Rod Slattery as a Contracts Manager.
2007 TFA obtain ISO 9001 quality accreditation
TFA move to new offices in Uxbridge which gives us loads more office space,
loads of warehousing and makes all feel a lot more professional and grown
up.
TFA start a major fitout project with Overbury which is the new Headquarters
building for Deloitte and Touch in New Street Square in London.
New Street Square
More personnel come on board in the form of Marc Dent as an additional
Contracts Manager
2008 TFA obtain both ISO 14001 and BS OHS AS 18001 accreditation for
environmental and health and safety systems. The first people in our
industry to achieve this milestone.
TFA join the Association of Interior Specialists to increase their profile
and networking potential.
TFA successfully diversify into Acoustic and hardwood flooring systems to
further complement their range of products.
2009
The Global recession is hitting the economy hard but we plough on, and
undertake new and interesting Projects. It’s a time to batten down the
hatches and we get to the end of the year without having to release any
staff members.
One of our sales people Barry Foreman leaves us and moves back to Canada and
he is replaced by James Remon who is brought in to strengthen our acoustic
flooring knowledge.
We win a project for Loxford School in East London where we install the
entire raised floor, carpet and vinyl works. This turned out to be a very
successful contract for the Main Contractor, TFA and the client.
Further diversification in to the education market sees us installing raised
floors and Hardwood sports floors at West Thames College in Isleworth.

West Thames College
TFA finish the year bidding some major fitout projects that we are confident
of winning and overall feel very positive about the year in front
2010
A very strong start to the year sees TFA starting a major fitout for The
Bank of Tokyo in the City of London. From this project we secure two further
fitouts in this same building for Macquarie Bank and Markit, a financial
information services business.
Ropemaker Place
TFA also see an increase in new raised floor solutions such as the GIFA
floor from Knauf which is an interlocking calcium sulphate floor that allows
finishes such as vinyl, timber and stone to be directly bonded to the
surface. This system is been increasingly used for commercial fitout
projects in Reception, Café and Breakout areas where interesting designs and
finishes are being specified and fitted.
TFA win a major project to supply and install a custom designed acoustic
floor for a major new public space at the Granary Building in London’s Kings
Cross. The acoustic floor was installed over the listed timber flooring.
This was but one of a number of projects where we were asked to supply
acoustic and hardwood floors to market sectors that we would otherwise not
have been able to work in when we were purely a raised flooring business.
2010 continues to be a successful year for TFA with a growth in staff
numbers and an increasing list of testimonial projects for the likes of
Barclays Capital, Fitch ratings, cap Gemini and the Bank of China.
